Ground Rules for Resolving Conflict

1. Set aside enough time to work through the conflict

2. Have a clear goal.

3. Don't use the accusatory word "You," such as "You did" or "You made me feel…"

4. Use the word "I" to describe how you feel.

5. Stay on target and only discuss the issue at hand.

6. Avoid using one-liners, such as "You're impossible" or "I'm leaving you."

7. Remember that you are really both on the same side-your marriage.
